![]() ![]() Those with the Gen 6 designation feature the 11 the generation Intel Core processors for Intel models, and the newer GeForce RTX 30XX series NVIDIA GPUs. ![]() But to simplify, model families with the "i" in the family name use an Intel CPU and those without the "i" use an AMD CPU. The configurability of some of the model families adds to the confusion. The variety of model families is large enough to be confusing. The Legion 5i Pro is part of a vast array of LEGION branded gaming laptops offered by Lenovo, in various model families, some with numerous sub configurations, and some which can be customized to various extents. This article reviews - primarily for Linux users - the particular configuration sold exclusively by Costco in December 2021 (Lenovo model: 16ITH6 Lenovo part number: 82JF002RUS from the Lenovo platform number: 82JF) although it will be helpful to anyone interested any configuration of the Intel Core-i7 based 16ITH6. Linux users looking for such a laptop will also be happy, but might be disappointed by the lack of support of one of the features supported in Windows but not in Linux. ![]() Windows users looking for a high performance laptop for workstation use, but at a value due to the omission of extras found in ThinkPads and others will be happy. Other outstanding features are the excellent build quality, the plethora of ports, all at the latest standards, including two USB-C ports, one supporting power delivery, and all supporting Display Port and Thunderbolt 4. It also has some surprising outstanding features, such as the excellent 16" 2560x1600 IPS HDR screen. Performance is good - near the high end for a consumer laptop - thanks to the Intel Core-i7 with 24 MB of level 3 cache. I guess I should either disable Hybrid Mode, which seems to disable the integrated graphics, or contact Lenovo and ask if this is something that I can fix.The Lenovo Legion 5i Pro is an excellent laptop. It's trying to balance the GPU usage to preserve battery life by switching between the dedicated and integrated graphics depending on what application is being run, but this means that the display settings are changed every time the dedicated graphics are used. Games that utilize the dedicated graphics still rescale everything, but I think this might have something to do with how Hybrid Mode in Lenovo Vantage works. I'll report back if anything changes.ĮDIT 3: I decided to do a fresh install of Windows to remove everything I'd done since getting the laptop. I think I may have messed something up when I installed the drivers. Witcher 3 launches minimized now and refuses to maximize.ĮDIT 2: I rolled back the 3060's drivers in device manager, and Witcher now launches with no problems. I'll mark this as solved in a couple of days if the problems don't come back.ĮDIT: Never mind, this only worked for Minecraft. Windows still thinks I'm using 2 displays though, but for all I know that could be normal. ![]() I think I may have found a solution (at least for now)! I set a custom scale factor in windows display settings to 100%, and so far it has stayed there. I should also note that if I turn on "Hybrid Mode" in Lenovo Vantage, doing stuff on the laptop is smoother, but the integrated graphics completely disappear from both task manager and device manager.Īny and all advice is very much appreciated!ĮDIT: Weird scaling issues also occur when I launch Minecraft Windows 10 edition. If I run the game in windowed borderless, the entire window is too big to fit the screen and not at all centered. It seems like this problem occurs when the laptop switches to using the RTX 3060 instead of the integrated AMD graphics, as it's currently set to "Automatic Select" in "Manage Display mode" in the NVIDIA control panel, and I get a notification saying that it switched. At one point I was also unable to maximize the game after minimizing it. Every time I launch Witcher 3, it changes the scaling in the display settings to 150%, and it thinks that I have 2 displays. I got my new Lenovo Legion 5 (2021) laptop today, but I'm having some problems with certain applications. ![]()
